Brizida Magro is a Boulder-based illustrator and educator. She has been teaching Illustration classes at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design since 2014. Her goal is to help students develop their own creative voice, critical thinking skills and the ability to solve problems based on their personal experiences.
She has earned an MFA in Graphic Design from Utah State University, a BFA in Illustration from Brigham Young University and has worked professionally both as a designer and illustrator for the past 15 years.
She has a passion for mountains, wandering the world, and bringing stories, brands, and products to life. She works with contemporary digital media, the more handcrafted mediums of paper collages, acrylics, and china marker. She enjoys simplicity, whimsy, wee characters, and collecting olden papers.
Raised by her grandmother and sister, she spent her childhood in a small Portuguese fishing town. For as long as she can remember, they would often make things by hand as a family. While her grandmother gardened and baked delicious cakes, her and her sister would spend time making clothes for their dolls and building twig shelters near her grandmother’s country home.
Her childhood has greatly impacted her current work, fostering her sense of imagination and serving as creative inspiration throughout her life. She is inspired by the innocence and naiveté of children’s art, frolicking adventures through forests and mountains, vintage children’s books found during thrift shop excursions, and by folk art across the globe.
