David Mesplé is a West Coast transplant who was educated in Physics and Fine Art studying under a cosmic convergence of world-renowned conceptual artists, sculptors, and photo-realists while receiving his Master’s degree from Cal State Sacramento, and he is now completing his PhD in the Neuroscience of Creativity on a full scholarship from Texas Tech University.
Working in diverse media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, audio, digital, and performance, David focuses on colliding cultural value systems, and the e ffects on individuals who are drawn into those collisions. His work has been featured in textbooks, book covers, music CD’s, PBS profiles, films, and on NPR.
David exhibits almost exclusively in public and private not-for-profit museums and art centers, regionally, nationally, and internationally. He had a two-person exhibit with Rembrandt in California in 1997, was an artist in residence at Northern Kentucky University, Biola University, and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and was the keynote speaker for Case Western Reserve’s International Engineer’s Week and the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. He is the recipient of the Arts Innovation Award from the Colorado Federation for the Arts, the Grumbacher Gold Medallion for Watercolor, the People’s Choice Award at the 2010 Denver Chalk Art Festival, and grants from The Xerox Foundation and Canon USA for his copier art.
David’s research has been presented at the International Animation Festival in England, the Conference on Creativity in Chicago, The International Science and Literature in the Arts Conference at Rice University Medical Research Center, and the OMIC Animation Conference in San Antonio.
