Randy Brown, a professor of Photography at RMCAD, is a Colorado-based documentary photographer and photojournalist working on projects that address socio/cultural issues. He is also a recipient of the RMCAD Professional Development Grant. In his teaching practice at the college, Brown is focused on student success through robust interactions with the students he teaches to embrace and respect diverse populations, to prepare students for professional practice, and to work with his colleagues to construct effective platforms from which to deliver expertise in the photographic medium.
His thirty-five year photography career has offered opportunities to work with national and internationally diverse clients, primarily through editorial and academic platforms. Examples include photographs and writings regarding drought in Colorado’s San Luis Valley and the existential threat to the valley culture through water exportation to the densely populated Colorado Front Range.
Additionally, Randy had photographed two Indonesia based projects, Sumatra and Borneo, with the University of Denver Department of Anthropology. Additionally, a photographic documentary project in concert with organizations working with veterans with PTSD and addiction issues manifested through rafting trips in the Colorado River and Cataract Canyon.
Brown’s works are in the collection of the Denver Art Museum as well as countless private and corporate collections. His works have been exhibited in more that 40 exhibitions nationally and internationally. Visit his website or read more about his latest narratives in the Alamosa Citizen.
